VINTAGE CONVENT HOLY FAMILY — OLIVE WOOD FROM THE HOLY LAND

This is one of those beautiful treasures that brings together faith, history, and the Holy Land.

From a now-closed nuns’ convent, this vintage Holy Family wall plaque is carved from olive wood from the Holy Land and measures approximately 9½ inches tall.

The carving is just glorious. Our Lady tenderly holds the Child Jesus while St. Joseph stands protectively beside them, all surrounded by beautifully carved foliage. I especially love the simple, almost folk-art quality of the faces and the wonderful depth in the folds of their garments.

And then there is the olive wood itself. ❤️

For Christians, olive wood from the Holy Land carries a particularly beautiful association with the land where Our Lord was born, lived, taught, suffered, died and rose again. Pieces like this have long been brought home by pilgrims as devotional reminders of that sacred land.

This one has something else I particularly treasure — it spent part of its life in a convent. We cannot know all the prayers said in its presence over the years, but I always find something rather special about giving these old convent pieces another Catholic home instead of allowing them to disappear.

It is in lovely convent-used vintage condition, with the natural variations, patina and little signs of age one would expect and hope to find in an older hand-carved piece. Please look closely at the photos as they are part of the description.
