The Convent Crucifix of Final Grace

This beautiful little vintage wooden crucifix measures approximately 5 inches tall and comes from a now-closed convent.

Finished in a warm wood tone, it features lovely carved detailing and gentle signs of convent use—evidence that it was not merely displayed, but treasured as part of a life devoted to prayer.

Most special of all is the original label still attached to the back:

“To this crucifix is attached the plenary indulgence in the hour of death.”

The faint maker’s marking appears to be from Barton-Cotton, a longtime American Catholic devotional company. Based upon its style, construction and markings, it likely dates from approximately the mid-20th century.

The crucifix shows age-related rubbing and small areas of finish loss, all visible in the photographs. The original hanging hole remains on the back.
