Antique Imperial Russian Chernigov Mother of God & Saint Theodosius Silver Medal

A truly remarkable piece of old-world Christian history…

This antique, double-sided Russian silver devotional medal dates to approximately the late 1890s or early 1900s—most likely from the final years of Imperial Russia.

One side depicts the crowned Chernigov Mother of God tenderly holding the Christ Child. The reverse portrays Saint Theodosius of Chernigov, vested as an archbishop and holding a blessing cross and pastoral staff.

The beautifully detailed Cyrillic inscriptions identify both sacred images. Measuring a little over 1 inch, this small medal carries extraordinary detail—from the radiant halos and tiny crowns to the folds of the vestments.

The silver has developed a deep, naturally aged patina that brings every detail to life. It remains in wonderful antique-used condition, with surface marks and wear consistent with its considerable age. The original suspension loop is intact, allowing it to be worn or added to a devotional display.

A rare and meaningful treasure from the Eastern Christian tradition—more than a century old and likely carried in faith through a world that has long since disappeared.
