This Sunday our nephew Johnny will participate in the Second Scrutiny as he prepares to enter the Catholic Church at Easter.
Many people have never heard of the Scrutinies, but they are one of the most beautiful traditions of Lent.
During these sacred moments at Mass, the Church prays for those preparing to receive the Sacraments — asking Christ to strengthen what is good in them, heal what is weak, and free them from anything that keeps them from God.
This Sunday’s Gospel tells the story of Jesus healing the man born blind.
At first, the man only knew that Jesus had healed him.
But little by little, his eyes — and his heart — were opened until he could finally say “Lord, I believe.”
In many ways, that is the journey of faith for all of us.
In a world that often pulls young people away from God, it is deeply moving to watch a young man choose Christ and His Church.
As his godparents, Walt and I feel incredibly honored to stand beside Johnny on this journey.
Johnny, we are so proud of you.
Please keep Johnny in your prayers as he continues preparing to receive the Sacraments this Easter.
And if you are willing, please say a simple prayer for him today:
Lord, open his eyes to Your truth, strengthen his faith, and keep him always close to You.
Because when even one soul turns toward Christ… heaven rejoices.
