The Weight We Were Never Meant to Carry: Surrendering to God

As Catholics, we are called to live in communion with one another...we bear each other’s burdens, share in joys and sorrows, and love as Christ loves us.

But many of us feel the pressure to do more than this, as we try to hold everything and everyone together, as though the weight of the world rests solely on our shoulders.

This isn’t just exhausting; it’s overwhelming. And the truth is, it’s a burden God never meant for us to carry!

We become convinced that if we let go, everything will fall apart...but this mindset is a distortion of God’s design for us.

We Are Not the Savior, Christ Is

We are not the Savior. Jesus is.  The heavy lifting is His alone.

In Matthew 11:28, Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.”

He calls us to lean on Him, to surrender our our anxieties to Him.

When we try to hold everything together on our own, we are inadvertently acting as though we don’t need Him—that we can do what only God can do.

But here’s the beautiful truth that will help set you free...Christ is already holding it all together!

Colossians 1:17 reminds us that, “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”

This means that even when we let go, God is still in control.

    Trust in God's Plan

In moments of feeling overwhelmed, remember Martha and Mary (Luke 10:38-42).

Martha was trying to serve and hold everything together, she was "anxious and troubled about many things."

Meanwhile, Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, listening, trusting, and receiving.

Jesus didn’t dismiss Martha’s efforts as unimportant, but He made it clear that Mary had chosen the better part...one of trust and intimacy with Him.

Our first responsibility is to be with Him, to rest in Him.

When we allow ourselves to sit at His feet, like Mary, we realize that His plan is perfect, even when things seem to be falling apart by our standards.

    The Freedom of Surrender

There is freedom in acknowledging our limits.

Trying to play the role of God..especially in our families...only leads to frustration and burnout.

I have found that surrendering to God brings great peace.

We are called to participate in His mission, not to take it over.

When we let go of the illusion of control, we begin to see that God works through our anxiety and weaknesses.

2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

It is in our surrender, in our inability to hold everything together, that God’s strength is revealed.

If you’re feeling burdened today, take heart... You don’t have to hold everything together. Christ already is.

Surrender to Him, and allow Him to lift the weight you were never meant to carry.

Sending our love and prayers to our remnant family...Wendy, Walt and the entire Cukierski family

    ---HELP IF YOU CAN----

Here is a post, from a recipient of what we do,.

L**** and I were one of the precipitants of This mission. She is right. My parking was 9 per day for 3 months. Then on top of that food cost me approximately 15 per day. That was cheap - I got vouchers for $5.00 per meal. So somedays I did not eat or made meals last for more then one meal. Had to. Parking was $810. Food was $1,300. Then you have normal household bills and I have 3 animals I had to pay to have people come and take care of them. At first I had my dog in the Kennel for 1/2 the time. That was about 500. It is VERY expensive to have a sick child. That was Just ONE hospital stay. We have had numerous ones. Some only a few days, some a week or two. Without their help we would of gone fully under!

From providing necessary funds to actually having families stay with us...we DO what we say we do!
