I learned from Venerable Archbishop Fulton Sheen that human motherhood is actually twofold.
First there is the actual physical act of giving birth.
Second is that of the spirit. We must remember that the soul of a child does not emanate from the mother...but is created fresh by God ♡
He infuses the soul at the moment of conception...yet another reason abortion is absolutely monstrous!
Every child born has two fathers... his earthly father and his Heavenly Father.... so the mother essentially is a partner through whom both father's work.
There is NOTHING more that I cherished than the mother- baby relationship. My babies were totally dependent on me. It truly helps a woman to become totally selfless.
I think that giving birth to a baby is the most harrowing and painful thing in the world, yet we do it. We submit ourselves in a sacrificial way. Then we give of our days and our nights...our minds, our body and our soul. Calvary and motherhood...I see a connection ♡
Motherhood sure has helped me understand the doctrine of redemption a whole lot better.
And then there is the associated risk of death while giving birth. I encountered it three times. All I could think during those harrowing times was.... please, God... save my baby. Motherhood is sacrificial in so many ways.
Have we ever stopped to think how a mother brings God to man and man to God? As mothers we bring God to man by permitting God (through the act of conception) to create and infuse a new soul. She allows herself to be used as a vessel.
Motherhood is more than just a woman and a man who happened to have sex..it contains a spiritual element. The woman cooperates with her husband.. the father of the human baby...and also cooperates with God the father of that babies soul...which is eternal and indestructible! How blessed we are to be mothers...in direct partnership with God!
