Well, would you look at that—this 58-year-old Catholic mom of thirteen is officially best friends with a sand timer.
Yes, a real-life, old-fashioned, turn-it-upside-down sand timer!
My kids think I'm stuck in the Stone Age, but you know what?
That humble hourglass has saved me from burying myself (and possibly a few children) under many messes and business projects, and expectations of perfection.
You see, I used to figure if I couldn’t do something “perfectly,” I might as well not start.
But guess what?
Waiting for that perfect time to do it all flawlessly was like trying to keep socks matched in a house with 13 kiddos in their younger days—basically impossible.
So now, I flick that sand timer for 15 minutes of focus: tackling the messy kitchen, sorting my mountainous mail pile, or cleaning all that mysterious gunk off the refrigerator handle (who even knows?!).
Then, once the last grain of sand falls, I give myself permission to stop.
I’ll come back to it, but in the meantime, I’ve spared myself a meltdown of Biblical proportions.
God doesn’t call us to be perfect—He calls us to do our best with love.
And if this 58-year-old mother of thirteen can learn to let go of perfectionism, trust me, you can too.
So grab a 15 minute timer, say a quick prayer, and give yourself grace—because a sprinkling of peace and humor goes a lot farther than waiting around for perfect.
Amen and let me know if you need prayer

L**** and I were one of the precipitants of This mission. She is right. My parking was 9 per day for 3 months. Then on top of that food cost me approximately 15 per day. That was cheap - I got vouchers for $5.00 per meal. So somedays I did not eat or made meals last for more then one meal. Had to. Parking was $810. Food was $1,300. Then you have normal household bills and I have 3 animals I had to pay to have people come and take care of them. At first I had my dog in the Kennel for 1/2 the time. That was about 500. It is VERY expensive to have a sick child. That was Just ONE hospital stay. We have had numerous ones. Some only a few days, some a week or two. Without their help we would of gone fully under!
From providing necessary funds to actually having families stay with us...we DO what we say we do!
