This is a very significant Sacramental. It reminds us of Jesus as He prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane This was the place where Jesus prayed alone and asked that he not have to endure the suffering and crucifixion that was to come. It was also here that his betrayal by Judas and arrest occurred.

Gethsemane is a Greek form of the Hebrew phrase for "oil press" (gat shemanim). Mark and Matthew describe a "place" called Gethsemane located near the Mount of Olives. John describes Jesus' betrayal as occurring in a "garden" located across the Kidron valley east of Jerusalem and thus on the western slope of the Mount of Olives.

This site is currently under the control of Franciscan monks and the olives from the oldest tree at the site are regularly sent to the Pope. It is thought that there are trees here that may be almost as old as 2,000 years.

Our Lady of the Prairies (or Notre Dame de Prairie, the title given to Our Lady by the French Canadians) is associated with wheat. In her arms she bears a bundle of wheat and is shown in a field of wheat. Those in need of special favors have sought the intercession of Our Lady of The Prairies. Many cures and favors have been reported since this tradition began.

Miraculous Sand from the "Sacred Sand Pit" in Chimayo.

In need of a miracle? Read this!

Sometime around 1810, a Chimayo friar was performing penances when he saw a light bursting from a hillside.

Digging, he found a crucifix, the miraculous crucifix of Our Lord of Esquipulas. A local priest brought the crucifix to Santa Cruz, but three times it disappeared and was later found back in its hole. By the third time, everyone understood that El Senor de Esquipulas wanted to remain in Chimayo, and so a small chapel was built on the site.

Then, the miraculous healings began. These miracles grew so numerous that the chapel had to be replaced by a larger one!

El Santuario de Chimayo is now known as the "Lourdes of America." because of the numerous miracles. The crucifix still resides on the chapel altar, but for some reason its curative powers have been overshadowed by El Posito, the miraculous "sacred sand pit" from which it sprang, which gapes unevenly behind the main altar. Over 300,000 people visit every year!

We know that many folks are unable to travel to New Mexico to get this miraculous "sacred sand".

As a family of 14, we know that we would be unable to afford to travel that far.
Fortunately, our friend Kate not only visited...she sent us some of this "sacred sand"!!! On the sad side, she was only able to get a small amount. BUT...we are going to stretch it as far as we can! All we ask is a .95 cents to help us cover our cost of packaging, etc.
