Information on Prayer Cloths

What is a Prayer Cloth? In Acts 19:11-12, it speaks of how cloths (aprons and handkerchiefs) were touched to Peter and Paul and taken back to the sick who were often cured of their ills. It says that "God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul; so that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them."

How do I pray with a Prayer Cloth? In many places, the custom exists to place the prayer cloth on a special table and to place petitions on the cloth as well as pictures of our loved ones and those in need of spiritual or physical healing. The prayer cloth may also be placed directly on the sick person or held while praying. Prayer cloths can be used for the dying, the ill, the aged, the lonely and fearful, cures of all kinds, conversions, consolations of soul and body, family difficulties, burials, calamities, special occasions, and devotional praying.

Prayer to say with Prayer Cloth: Lord Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, by the grace of your Holy Spirit cure the weekness that has overtaken your servant. Expel all afflictions of mind and body from your servant. Mercifully restore to full health and enable the full resumption of former duties to your servant, for you are Lord for ever and ever. Amen.

HISTORICAL EVIDENCE OF PRAYER CLOTH HEALING:

Use of prayer cloths have ancient biblical origins. It is a method of healing drawing its roots from the Bible scripture in Acts 19:11-12 which says, “God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.”

Prayer cloths are likened to these “handkerchiefs” from which the power of Jesus flowed. Other scripture outlining the origin of this belief can be found in Matthew 9:20 and Matthew 14:35-37 in which Jesus heals a multitude of sick and diseased people by simply allowing them to touch a piece of His clothes. However, it is not the cloth in itself that is responsible for the healing. Objects within themselves are powerless, therefore it is the faith accompanying the administration of the cloth that can bring healing. That faith is manifested in prayer and seeking the cloth trusting that God has the power to heal with it.

From a medical standpoint, there is empirical evidence that shows the effectiveness of prayer as a form of healing. Prayer is now being seen as an alternative medical means to heal the body outside of traditional medications. It is becoming used more prevalently in the medical field as an established complimentary form of care.

In modern times, prayer has been classified as a complimentary therapy (CT) to more direct and primary forms of health care treatments such as cancer and other serious diseases.

Various studies have shown that prayer, along with other spiritual practices such as meditation, church attendance, and bible study, helps to reduce pain in diseased patients along with providing for their mental and emotional well-being.

The prayer cloth is an AID or perhaps even a VESSEL (if the Lord chooses!) to HEAL!

Prayer and faith is the foundation and basis of the cloth’s power to heal.

 

FROM THE BIBLE...

Matthew 9:20-22 And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment.
21 For she said to herself, "If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well."
22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour.

In this instance the woman touched Jesus garment. The garment itself healed no one, but it was a point of contact for the woman faith and Jesus healing power

Jesus rubbed mud in one man's eye in order for Him to receive His healing
John 9:14-15 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.
15 Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight. He said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see."
The Book of Acts provide another example of extra ordinary healing methods.
Acts 5:15 so that they brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.
The healing anointing is tangible
Luke 8:45-46 And Jesus said, "Who touched Me?" When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, `Who touched Me?' " But Jesus said, "Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me."
Point of contact: Hands, Oil, mud, shadow or cloth could provide a point of contact for the power of God to flow into another's body.

In the Old Testament the prophet told an unbelieving leper to dip in the Jordon river seven times! This cause Naaman to become angry and he refused. After some prodding he did it.
2 Kings 5:14 So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
The river didn't heal Naman, but his obedience to the word of the Lord did.
