A PRAYER FOR MEMORIAL DAY

I remember when I was 10 years old and entered an essay contest.  The topic was "What Memorial Day means to me"

I ended up winning and remember reading it...not a dry eye in the house.

I was blessed to have parents who taught me what it was to sacrifice not only for our family ...but for others.

To think that I am able to sit here and type this because someone I don't even know cared enough to give their life for my freedom.  It truly is something to reflect on.

Freedom is never free. My heart and prayers go out to those who have lost a loved one who served to provide what many of us take for granted. I wish I could thank them in person and one day I shall be able.  Meanwhile I say THANK YOU, to you.

May Our Lord and His Blessed Mother comfort
those who have lost loved ones

Thank you to the Diocese of Providence, RI for this beautiful Memorial Day prayer!

Heavenly Father, On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom.
May the examples of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of Your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with Your strength and peace.

In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

May you have a Blessed Memorial Day!
